Scripture References to Miracles

Miracles

In the New Testament these four Greek words are principally used to designate miracles:

Semeion, a "sign", i.e., an evidence of a divine commission; an attestation of a divine message (Matt. 12:38,39; 16:1, 4; Mark 8:11; Luke 11:16; 23:8; John 2:11, 18, 23; Acts 6:8, etc.); a token of the presence and working of God; the seal of a higher power.

Terata, "wonders;" wonder-causing events; portents; producing astonishment in the beholder (Acts 2:19).

Dunameis, "might works;" works of superhuman power (Acts 2:22; Rom. 15:19; 2 Thess. 2:9); of a new and higher power.

Erga, "works;" the works of Him who is "wonderful in working" (John 5:20, 36).

Standing before him was an awesome being, 10-feet tall, robed in brilliant white...an angel. The messenger of God lifted up his hand and pointed a finger directly at Jan:

"You see, _____, all you must do is be available

"You see, _____, all you must do is the work."

Miracles are seals of a divine mission, as proof that they were messengers of God. Our Lord also appealed to miracles as proof of his divine mission (John 5:20, 36; 10:25, 38). Where miracles are there certainly God is. Then men and women (man) who works a miracle affords proof that he comes with the authority of God; they are his credentials that he is God's messenger. He boldly says, "God bears me witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles."

Miracles are fitted to convey the impression of the presence and power of God.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Miracles are designed to authenticate the commission of the teacher and the truth of the message (John 2:18; Matt. 12:38). 2 Samuel 22:33 God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect.

Miracles show the intervention of a power that is not limited by the laws of nature

Ecclesiastes 10:20 Do not curse the king, even in your thought; Do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom; For a bird of the air may carry your voice, And a bird in flight may tell the matter.

Miracles are a result of one body

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Miracles require faith as a non-rational belief pattern, they have their own faith-based belief system

Hebrews 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Luke 18:27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
